Mastering Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a Weekend as an Undergraduate

Course structure

The intensive course is designed to prepare the candidate who is soon going to sit for the Finals of his MBBS program.  It is a revision and intensive course.  Thecandidates are expected to have completed his or her posting in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Given the short time available, the whole syllabus cannot be covered. However the topics have been carefully chosen in order to cover the areas that are important for the Examination. These include:

Day One

  • Understanding the menstrual cycle and its clinical applications
  • Taking a Gynae history: the what, the how and the why
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pelvic mass and other tumours of the genital tract
  • Dysmenorrhea and pelvic pain
  • Primary and secondary ammenorrhea
  • Prolapse, Urinary incontinence and associated pathology
  • Acute abdomen in gynaecology
  • Managing the infertile couple
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Dealing with the long case
  • Spot OSCE in Gynaecology
  • Mock theory exam in Gynaecology

Day Two

  • Taking a obstetric history: the what, the how and the why
  • How to examine the obstetric patient
  • Fetal and maternal monitoring: antenatal and in labour
  • Ante partum hemorrhage
  • Hypertension in pregnancy
  • Diabetes in pregnancy
  • Heart disease in pregnancy
  • Anaemia in pregnancy
  • Polyhydramnios including Malpresentation
  • Post partum hemorrhage
  • How to deal with the long case in Obstetrics
  • Spot OSCE in Obstetrics
  • Mock theory exam in Obstetrics

Each topic will start with a small lecture-cum-tutorial and this will be followed by a spot test on the topic covered. In addition, sessions on how to deal with the long case in Obstetrics and in Gynaecology and an OSCE exam will be covered.  The course will end with a mock theory Exam.
